Dave Bates is a licensed professional therapist in Fairbanks, Alaska. Dave has been working in the field of human services since 1977. He began his career working in a group home for teenagers. He later worked with youth in various capacities and counseled families. He moved to Alaska in 1990. Dave has worked as an alcohol and drug counselor both inpatient and outpatient. He also was a teacher for several years. In addition, he has had several positions working with children and teenagers in public agencies.
Dave attended the University of Alaska Fairbanks for his Master’s degree in Counseling. He began his career as a therapist working at Hope Counseling Center. He also completed a one-year internship with LEAP, Alternatives to Violence Program. Dave completed his sex therapy certification with the Institute for Sexual Wholeness. He is also certified by the American Board of Christian Sex Therapists. Since he and his wife started Clearwater Counseling, Dave has been specializing in relationship issues, sex addictions, anger, depression, and anxiety issues.
Dave has been working with military families in Fairbanks since 2002 and has a wide range of experiences in dealing with their unique situations including relocation, deployed spouse, relationship issues, addictions, parenting and depression.
Dave has extensive experience in working with the Native community in various settings and situations.
While Dave works closely with a number of local churches in the community, he counsels all individuals and couples regardless of their religious or spiritual beliefs.
Dave has been married to his wife Marylee since 1979. They have two birth children and at last count, seven grandchildren.
